Who does she think she is?

This is  a quick follow-up to the earlier post The Need to Write.

I am sorry I am posting another youtube, but I found this so riveting I had to put it here.

It is an independent film about being a woman and an artist, and this trailer seemed to address some of what we were discussing.

  1. Thank you for sharing this. I think the chances of it showing in my area are slim, but I’ve added it to my Netflix list for when it’s out on DVD.

  2. That video clip is amazing–it hits on so many aspects of being a woman artist. The pull between worlds is real, but then, as was alluded to, there’s not really any choice, is there? Take the hard road, the often maligned, misunderstood road and be sane (ish 🙂 ) and really be able to appreciate/love the people in your life and experience joy. Or be the Brady Bunch wife and take out a lifelong prescription for Zoloft. ;-D

Hmmm. . . I’ve written another paragraph here and deleted it three times. I think I need time to flesh out my ideas. Thanks for giving me fodder for thought!

p.s. I accidentally posted this twice (to the Time Traveler’s Wife Trailor and here). Sorry!

    • Oh no – not the Brady Bunch! lol (I never enjoyed that show as a kid.

It really hit home when I saw this trailer. And that’s just it – there really is no choice. Or, I suppose the only choice is denial of oneself – and that leads to lifelong presciptions, as you said. LOL
(just yesterday, I was out with the kids and someone I ran into said ‘oh, you’re still doing that writing thing….’) ggggrrrrrrr.

  3. Famous painters? I cannot name one woman. What a travesty. I’m glad women are more readily accepted in the writing world, but still, I’ve grappled with the idea of using my initials to play it safe.

My oldest daughter and my mother are both talented artists. I display my daughter’s art, but my mother keeps herself in wraps and is among the women who think it’s self-indulgent to paint while a dish lie in the sink.

    • Yes, I know a few women like that. There will be always be a dish in the sink as far as I am concerned. If mama is out of balance, then the family is as well. If mama is happy, then so is the family. 🙂
